New joint service combines legal and clinical research to challenge illegitimate claim denials across Michigan No Fault, Workers’ Compensation, Medicare, and beyond — billed flat-fee by volume, not as a percentage of recovery.
Lansing, Mich. — August 1, 2026 — Electronic Medical Services, LLC, the researcher-auditor-biller division serving providers nationwide, has partnered with the Audit Division of Direct Care Training & Resource Center, Inc. (DCTRC) to launch Claim Detective, a new investigative auditing service built to give medical and rehabilitation providers a real-time, evidence-based path to challenging denied healthcare claims. It is the result of a significant investment into the very best technology the industry has to offer.
“Too many legitimate claims are denied simply because no one pushes back with the right evidence,” said Bruce W. McCollum, MHA, CEO at DCTRC. “Claim Detective was built to change that. We are not guessing at why a claim was denied — we are researching the statute, the policy, the medical record, and the coding, and then building the case to refute an illegitimate denial on solid legal and clinical ground. It is investigative work, not paperwork.”
The service applies a structured, five-part review to every claim: coding review, medical necessity, documentation sufficiency, regulatory compliance, and payment integrity. Each denial is investigated against the specific statutory and policy framework that governs it — including, in Michigan No-Fault matters, controlling authority such as MCL 500.3107(1)(a) and the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision in Andary v. USAA Casualty Insurance Co., 512 Mich 207 (2023) — so that providers are not left arguing generalities against a payor that has already cited chapter and verse.
What distinguishes Claim Detective from a traditional collection or appeals vendor is the business model behind it. Electronic Medical Services and DCTRC do not operate as a collection agency and do not take a percentage of recovered claims. Instead, Claim Detective is billed as a flat fee based on claim volume. For providers, that structural difference matters: it removes any incentive to settle quickly for a partial recovery, and it means the full value of a properly substantiated claim goes back to the provider who earned it — not split with a contingency-based intermediary.
Claim Detective is available to medical practices, rehabilitation providers, home care and adult foster care operators, vocational rehabilitation programs, and any provider organization contending with denied claims under Michigan NoFault, Workers’ Compensation, Medicare, or comparable payor frameworks across the country. The service is delivered by a combined team of researchers, auditors, billers, and clinically credentialed case management staff who understand both the regulatory landscape and the realities of patient care.
